The Podcast I choose this week was episode four- where Maysoun Chehab talks about her non for profit organization in Lebanon. She raises awareness about early childhood development and child rights in her community. She worked on a project after a war in 2006 in Lebanon where lots of children were affected.

This week the site I went to was Harvard's Global Children s Initiative-
Three insights I learned from this site-
- Harvard's center on the developing child has lunched"its first major programmatic effort outside the United States" in Brazil. They plan to achieve the following:
- Building a scientific agenda and community of scholars around early childhood development;
- Synthesizing and translating scientific knowledge for application to social policy. This will include working with the Center’s longtime partner organization, Frameworks Institute, to effectively communicate the science of child development in the Brazilian cultural context;
- Strengthening leadership around early childhood development through an executive leadership course for policymakers;
- Translating and adapting the Center’s existing print and multimedia resources for a Brazilian audience.
(all this information and more found here: http://developingchild.harvard.edu/activities/global_initiative/applying_the_science_of_early_childhood_in_brazi/) All the information in green is not my own it comes straight from the site :)
- The center is all about making communication between different countries in order to build stronger ideas and concepts for better in early childhood development for all children. This goes hand and hand with what we learned this week because this is another way to make sure early childhood programs help every child.
- The center is also bg on helping out the mental health of children. Which relates not only to what we have talked about this week but also to the podcast. I love when things connect!
I hope you all are having a great week! Do not forget to check out this site and podcast!

I think that it can be very beneficial to look at other programs for ideas. Even in the smaller realm, something like even looking at their dismissal procedure can be beneficial. Educators need to be open to new ideas. Great post!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading about the work of Maysoun Cheha. Thanks for providing the link to her podcast. The Harvard University Global Initiative is very interesting.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed reading your blog!

Since one of my international contacts is from Brazil, I was thrilled to read about the Harvard's Center on the Developing Child and its work in Brazil. Brazil is a very poor country, and my contact is very concerned about how little the teachers are paid. I hope that the Center can make a difference in the lives of children in that country. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteHailey, you and I both read Global Center Initiative under the Harvard Center. This program was designed in 2006, but is doing some wonderful things in advocating for Early child hood development in the U.S and International.The story about Maysoun Chehab, is a great advocate and humanistic who indeed gave back to the children and families in Lebanon. We need more people like herself supporting the needs of children all over the country.
ReplyDeleteGreat post, Haily. I agree with your podcast, I reviewed earlier and enjoyed her imput. That is a great web site. Thanks for sharing.
