When I think of Research

I have gained so many insights from this course. I believe that the most important thing I have gained however is the knowledge that has allowed me to become more confident in gathering and conducting research. I now do not feel afraid of research but instead see it has great importance and strength.

My ideas of research have changed greatly. I now understand that it is okay not to know a research term, it is a way to grow intellectually  not a sign of failure. Most people do not know the terms, letting this cripple me like I have done in the past is the real issue.

I learned a lot about planing designing and conducting research in early childhood. I learned many things to watch out for like the dangers of  biases and not being valid. And I learned just how important constant research is to our field.

I encountered many challenges during this course. The major one was what I mentioned earlier and that is not knowing the terms and being afraid of them. I meet these challenges by seeing we all can feel this way and that terms are not so bad once you learn them.

My perceptions of the early childhood professional has changed because now it included those who research. This is an important aspect of our field I have always overlooked.

This course has been great for me and one of the biggest reasons I am able to say that it is because of you, my classmates. Thank you so much for your support, it made a course I thought I would hate into a fun one!!

  1. Hailey,
I think we started at the same place in regard to research because I had the same fears. I learned a whole lot, and, like you, I am not as afraid of research as I once was. I think I finally know the difference between qualitative and quantitative research, too. THAT took me the entire 8 weeks to stop mixing up the terms. You did a great job on the discussions for this course.

  2. I also learned so much from this course. I had read a lot of research for my son's issues, but was often hesitant to believe the results because I did not know how they could determine what really what factors impacted the results. How to try to control the extraneous variables was very informative for me. Best wishes in future courses and with your marriage!!! Congrats! -Sarah Holtz

  3. Hailey, I too had little knowledge about research and the importance of it. There is a great deal of information in regards to research that we all have learned and will take with us in our next phase in our careers and educational journey.I appreciate your honestly about being afraid in the beginning, because I was too. Research was like this foreign language and I did not have a clue as to what to anticipate. But with continuous readings and understanding, you build a sense of confidence, that research is basically "knowledge" that has to be applied to the lives of children and families. Hailey thank you for your honesty and great blogs!!!!
