1. I have a passion for teaching. - I know this may seem like an odd statement for someone who has been working on an education based degree. But before this course I was looking at other types of jobs in the early childhood field. Since this program started I have been bitten by the education bug. I no longer just want to advocate but also teach children. Because both have the power to shape major change.
2. Anti-bias education makes sure sure every child know there are other choices then hate. After last Friday's horrible events, there is no disputing we live in a world of hate. The children we educate have to face much more fear then we ever had to. It is important as educators that we replace biases that turn into hate into acceptance that turns into change. This program has given me the tools and knowledge to do this with in my own classroom.
3. I do not have to come up with some idea that has never been thought of to generate change, I just have to find other passionate people to make a difference. This program has taught me the importance of collaboration. And all of you, have taught me that many amazing people have a similar passion that I have. I have learned the power of listening to others and working with others to achieve great things.
My goal is to find ways to make a real difference within this field. To find new ways to advocate, to become a strong teacher and to just never lose sight of my passion.
I would like to say a heartfelt thank you. You can never know the depths in which you have changed my thinking, inspired me, and helped me make it through this program when I was ready to give up. I will never forget any of you and I thank you!
I would like to leave you with a quote, that really expresses how I feel about education both the education I have received and the education I plan to give.
Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.
Nelson Mandela
I wish you all nothing but success!
I agree with you about not having to come up with something that has never been thought of. Sometimes changes can be made in the smallest manner to make the biggest difference. I can say that is something I will take with me as well.
ReplyDeleteHailey,
ReplyDeleteWonderful post. I love that you are passionate about teaching. It is so important to be passionate about your career. I also enjoyed your comment about not having to come up with the ideas on your own, but that you could add to or add input to another person's idea. Great post. Best wishes to you and yours.
Hailei,
ReplyDeleteWonderful quote, I hope that education will be the only weapon on this earth. Actually we dont need any weapons to make social change, but we only need education and people like you who are passionate to make a positive difference in this world. I have enjoyed learning with you in my previous courses. I wish you all the luck and success in your future endeavors.
Great post and wonderful words to leave us all with. I wish you all the best in your journey and your goals. Great quote too, you are right, it is the perfect choice of words for the end of this part in our lives. Thank you and good luck!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Hailey. We share this passion for the first years of life with many, many others who are gifted in a myriad of ways. These human resources lead the way to actually making a difference. I agree that making a difference in the early years and their families can affect society. Hate is often fueled by fear. With education - imparting knowledge - informing with facts, we perhaps can help lift the shroud of ignorance and hate.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your encouragement to me. Perhaps we can connect some years down the road and again compare notes.
