Quotes.... from the video presentation...

For a class, a few weeks back we had to watch a video about different people in the early childhood field. A lot of what they said inspired me, but the two quotes below spoke to me the most...

” I have seen the wonderful impact that using what I call an anti-bias approach has not just on the children but on the teachers. Who have to figure out who they are and understand themselves  and uncover their own discomforts and misinformation. So I see adults finding their voice as well as a result of doing this work. “

-Louise Derman-Sparks

To me it is important not only to see what the kids are going to get out of all of this, but also to see what your fellow workers and the parents could learn and see as well.

“I found working intently with children and families was almost like working for an doctorate because every year there was always a specific challenge that I was in charge of, I had to meet it, I had to meet it for me, I Had to meet it in terms of what I was modeling for my staff…. and also had to meet it for the families. I always felt I owed the families my best.”

Renatta M Cooper

I mostly love the last sentence. I am one who believes to always do your best so this really spoke to me.

  1. I also really liked those quotes! I like how Louise Derman-Sparks sees growth in teachers, finding their own passions as they do their work, or finding out a new reason they love to work with children. And I love the quote by Renatta M. Cooper because every year is a new challenge, every day can be a new challenge!

  2. I like Renatta Cooper's comments. I can especially relate to the second quote because I have experienced the fact that every year brings its own challenges. Every year you as a teacher are adding a bit more knowledge and experience that will help you through the difficulties of the years to follow. I also think that's why collaboration between colleagues is SO important. We've all had to deal with different difficulties, and someone else's experiences can be a great help to us.

  3. I like that quote from Louise D. Sparks. His words are so true. He gave me a new perspective on why it is so important to remove all bias when we are working with kids. Good choice.

  4. Great choices Hailey! Abuse is at the top of my list too. I always want to reach out to those who are being abused or neglected.
