Professional Hopes and Goals

One hope that you have when you think about working with children and families who come from diverse backgrounds

I have many hopes when it comes to working with children and families but my main hope is to make every family to be welcomed. Smidt (2006) “Within each of their cultural groups children set about defining themselves as members of that group” (p.81) I want to give the children within my classroom the freedom to do just that, find out who they are and be comfortable with it. One of my all time favorite quotes is by Dolly Parton " Find out who you are and do it on purpose." My hope is that I give each child the hope in their hearts to do so.

One goal you would like to set for the early childhood field related to issues of diversity, equity, and social justice

My main goal for my work in the field in regard to diversity is that I always fight for those in my class that are unable and marginalized. I want to give a voice to those who have no voice. My cousin has Muscular Dystrophy. He has had many people help him and give him a voice to the many who have not helped him.  I want to always be a helper in every child;s life that I work with.

Thank you all for going through this journey with me! I can not believe it has come to an end so soon! I have enjoyed all of your insights, thoughts and ideas!! Thank you!!
